BRINGING YOUR “YES” FACE TO EVERYDAY LIFE

December 26, 2011

More than often we tend to short-change ourselves in this awesome game of life. Exactly what does that mean? It means most of the time we start our days with this great plan to hit the ground running, intent on achieving our “to do” lists and anything else that life throws our way. And then, “life” decides to throw in a few adversities, and our game face changes! Yes, that’s right; a few speed bumps often times is all it takes to throw us off. This happens to me more than I would like to admit. Be it individually or in a TEAM setting; the WINNERS in life KNOW how to maintain a “YES FACE ” in times of adversity. They have a can do attitude, an overcoming attitude, a SOLUTION focused mentality! Wow, my energy is raising as I type. I love being in that kind of environment and I’m sure you do as well. Now, before I share some solutions this writer uses to maintain a “YES FACE” . . . I must admit this subject/blog was inspired by a recent article I read regarding University of Michigan basketball coach, John Beilein’s reaction at half-time of a recent game against Bradley University. The 20th ranked Wolverines were at home and being out-work by a very scrappy Bradley team poised for the upset. What coach Beilein noticed was in a fairly even game his young upstarts were hanging there heads. He reminded them that there was STILL  a game to be won and that they controlled their own fate. But, what was required from each team member was that they needed to put they’re ‘YES FACE’ back on. I will simply say they got the message and won going away.  Now, back to our everyday lives . . . as I wrote earlier I loose my ‘YES FACE ‘ more than I would like to admit.  But, here are a few things I do/use to right the ship. 1) I want to be cognitive of the moment I start to hang my head because that allows me to process IMMEDIATE change in my attitude (GAME FACE BACK ON ) What I’m saying is  the more time we give ourselves to waddle in our mess or pout about a situation, the less chance we have of getting our YES FACE back. 2) Come to truly understand adversity (hurdles, speed-bumps, naysayers) however you want to categorize it. Know that the uh-ohs of life generally come between the beginning and the end of a day, a task, a GOAL and you must remember that those “uh-oh’s” will make you stronger and will only make the end result BETTER.  3) Prepare, prepare, prepare! It is very clear-cut; when I am prepared it is much easier to maintain my “YES FACE”, and when I’m not . . . well you know:(.   So as we PREPARE  to go into the “NEW YEAR” please share how YOU maintain your “YES FACE”  as well as share this blog to your friends and associates.  I KNOWUCANTOO!!! Happy New Year my friends and be DARING.
